Protection of Water and Sewer Investment in the State of New York
Water is a basic need to all human beings in the world since it’s used for many activities such as cooking, drinking, and cleaning. Investing in the protection of water and sewers in any state is a very important activity since it will bring many benefits. This situation is because it will enable the residents of those states to have access to clean and quality water which will not affect their health. This action will lead to the reduction of the cost of health which would have been used to treat waterborne diseases in the state. Clean water will also help in attracting investors in the state and also retain them, and this will help in the economic development of the states. Clean water will also boost tourism in the state if the visitors are comfortable with the quality of water available (Appleton & Albert n.d). Moreover, we are going to discuss the protection of water and sewer investments in the states of New York.
The Problem in the Water and Sewer investment in the State of New York
Aging infrastructures
One of the major problem affecting water and sewers in New York is the aging system of the pipes laid down in the state to transfer water to different parts of the New York. The reason behind this is because most of the pipes were laid down many years ago and therefore they have been aging with time. Therefore the pipes have been used for a long period without being replaced, and hence they require to be repaired to continue distributing water to various parts of the state.

Wait! The Protection of water and sewer investments in the state of New York paper is just an example!

The pipes are also in bad conditions due to their long term usage and therefore there is a need for repair by the state government of New York to distribute quality water to the people of the state.
The long usage of the pipes has caused plaguing of the pipes and also corrosion which has been caused by the reaction of water and metal, and this action can cause major health hazards to the people consuming the water (Burka, Peter nd). Moreover, corroding of the pipes by soil properties has also been a major problem since it has led to the leakage of water from the pipes leading to high wastage of water. These leakages also allow for contaminants to enter the water and thus causing major health hazards to the people of New York. Moreover, when these leaks are discovered, they take a lot of time to be repaired, and they can lead to people living in the area go without water for days. Therefore aging of the water pipes is one of the major problems in the New York state and various actions should be taken to solve this problem.
Finances
Another major problem is financing the repair of the damaged pipes in the State to distribute clean water to the residents of New York. Indeed, the state spends a lot of money in water and sewer infrastructure than most of other infrastructures required in the region. Moreover, the most investment in the water and sewer infrastructure goes to the distribution part which consists of installing and repairing various pipes and thus costing the state a lot of money. However, the cost of the water and sewer infrastructure sometimes exceeds the financial capability of the State and therefore the problem of water distribution is not solved. In other instances, the money allocated to the water infrastructures is allocated to other activities, and therefore no repairs are done, and this made lead to major problems to the people living in the region. The state prefers in allocating the money to other investments that might bring in more benefits or profits to them rather than investing in the water infrastructures. Thus shows that the finances required to repair the water and sewers infrastructures in the state are another major problem.
Another major problem affecting water and sewer investment in the state of New York is the high energy that water treatment plants consume in the region. Consumption of energy by the water treatment plants has been seen as one of the major expenses in distributing clean water to the residents of the state. These plants consume a lot of electric power which is very expensive and requires another type of energy to help in cleaning the water. This energy is required for the treatment of waste water where most of the energy goes to the biological treatment of the water. This treatment is done to get rid of various contaminants that might be found in the water. Thus, the expensive energy required to treat the water is also another major problem affecting water and sewer investment in New York.
Solutions to the Problems
One of the main solutions that the state of New York has taken is the one regarding the aging of water infrastructures such as the pipes (Hardoy, Jorge 155). These pipes produce copper and leader due to the reaction with water, and this action may lead to major health problems to the residents of the state. Thus the state government has taken various actions to stop this health problem such as cancer, kidney failure and brain damage from happening to people residing in the state. One of the major solutions to solve this issue that the state has come up with is the replacement of lead pipes. The reason behind these is that research has shown that there is no any safe amount of lead in the water since lead causes major health problems. Therefore the state has also decided to include the cost of replacing pipes made of lead in their budgets to enable the distribution of safe drinking water to their residents.
The New York state have also decided to adopt new technologies that will help stop the reaction and corrosion of the water pipes by the water. This action will also help in distributing safe drinking water to the people residing in the state. The state has also enabled the consumers of water in the region to have tests of the amount of lead that is present in the water they are consuming. This action will enable the consumers to realize whether the water they are consuming is safe or not. The state has also been involved in training on the consequences of lead poisoning to public health professionals, and various agencies are dealing with lead poisoning. These actions have helped in the reduction of the amount of lead in the water that the resident of New York consumes and therefore eliminating major health hazards.
Allocation of an adequate amount of funds in the sector is another major solution that the state government of New York has come up with to deal with the water, and sewer problem is the. The state government has allocated an amount of 200 million dollars to deal with the problem of water infrastructures such as replacement of aging pipes (Jarvie, Helen 8997-8998). This amount of money will also help in repairing the water breakages that occur in the state and also treating the dumped sewages in the water. This allocation of money to help provide clean water to the state will also attract investors to come and invest in the state, and this will bring more benefits to them.
The Subsequent action that must be taken to rectify the problem
One major subsequent way to protect water and sewers in the state of New York is to ensure that the individuals living there reuse and recycle their water. The residents of the state should also make sure that they also have other water supplies to save the water on the major water supplies in the region. The residents should choose water supplies which will require minimum energy to produce the water and also those that are not very risky. The New York residents should also consider the amount of water available in the state to make sure that they use it carefully to minimize the drainage of major water sources (Shu, Xihong 89-101). These actions will help reduce the water problems in the state by making sure that the major water sources don’t dry up.
The New York residents should also make sure that they prevent their water sources from pollution. Prevention of pollution can be done through various activities such as big companies that emit various water pollutants acquiring licenses from the state government. Also, they can stop pollution by reporting dumping cases to various bodies in the state who deal with water pollution cases. This action will help reduce pollution of water sources in the region and therefore make sure that people consume clean and safe water. Also, people littering the streets should also be reported since the litter is swept by the rain and thus ending up in the major water sources thus causing pollution. The state can also offer environmental education to the residence for them to take good care of the water bodies in the region. This action will also hep in dealing with the water and sewer problem.
Conclusion
In conclusion, protection of water and sewers is a very important activity in any state in America and also in every part of the world. However, it’s also an expensive activity and therefore the states should allocate enough funds to help deal with this problem. The state has taken a major step to help protect the water and sewers in the region. This action will help the residence and other investors in the region have access to clean water. Therefore, this investment will largely help the residents of New York.
