The book starts with the interview of Jack Torrance who is set to assume the position of a caretaker at Hotel Overlook. It later emerges that Jack would be given the job of manning the hotel in winter by the manager, Ullman.

The center of the plot is from the family of Jack Torrance. It includes his son (Danny), and his wife (Wendy). His family is forced to settle at the hotel following the acceptance of Jack to take the position of a caretaker at the hotel. The character of Jack is depicted as an ambitious writer who was recovering from alcoholism. He had issues relating to anger following his troubled past which had led him into breaking of Danny’s arm. Danny is in possession of telepathic abilities called ‘the shining, ’ and this is not known to his parents (Alegre, 105). As such, he can experience premonitions and read the minds of people.
Overview of ‘It.’
‘It’ was a 1986 production by Stephen King, it was a horror novel (Allbaugh, 2). The narrative explains how seven children were exploited following their terrorization by what was called the eponymous being. It involved the exploitation of individual fears in the appearance of a clown so that children could be attracted. The retelling of the narrative involved the alteration of the novel between periods of time. It dealt with the themes of power, ugliness, and childhood trauma.
Life of Stephen King
The life of Stephen King can be explained by considering his history. He was born in the year 1947 (Alegre, 106). His social life was influenced by numerous writing of horror novels which gained worldwide attention, making him a successful and critically acclaimed author from a commercial point of view (Alegre, 106). His father was called Donald Edwin King. Later long, Edwin King abandoned the family and fled away. His wife was left as the sole breadwinner for the family. In his youth, King developed an ‘appetite’ for horror novels. At this point, he realized his calling in life of authorship. He graduated from a high school called Lisbon Falls. It is while at the high school that he started writing for fun. Additionally, he sold some of his stories. The combination of this history and early life of Stephen Kings is what has made him into a skillful writer of today.
Some of the major works by Stephen King includes ‘The Shining’ and ‘It.’ These are the works which are evaluated in this essay. The novel ‘The Shinning’ has contributed largely to the development of the career of Stephen Kings. It is through this novel that he has become a famous author of horror thrillers (Alegre, 109). The book was his initial bestseller, as identified in previous sections of this essay. The book was later prepared as a film by director Stanley Kubrick (Kilker, 55). His other novel ‘It’ is also a famous book which documents the mysterious terror on children. Both novels have explored major themes revolving around the subject of horror scenes.

Stephen King is an American-based author. He applies contemporary horror, fantasy, fiction, and suspense in his numerous work of writing, not to mention his immense contribution to ‘The Shinning.’ The perception of the author can be analyzed by understanding his application of gothic elements in the scene. Determination of Choice Between ‘The Shinning’ and ‘It.’
The determination of choice between ‘The Shinning’ and ‘It’ by Stephen Kings reveals much information about the author and the king of narrative involved in both stories. In my analysis, ‘The Shinning’ is the most superior book of the two. It is accurate to mention that ‘It’ is a terrible film created from it. However, ‘The Shinning’ provides an autobiography of Stephen King for part of his life, possibly up to a point in time when he becomes disguised in a horror tale. ‘The Shinning’ contains much suspense.
‘It’ is another work by Stephen King that has been exaggerated to appear as a very long story, while in essence, there is no content in it. Its content does not warrant the need for such a length of the story. One of the best antagonists for the King’s is Pennywise, and the extra padding according to such a character does not enhance anything on the play.
Criticism of the Work of Stephen King in ‘The Shinning;
The work of King’s has been criticized by the version presented by Kubrick, which he justifies such a move by creating a movie for ‘The Shinning’ (Vlastelica, 4). Further, the work of King is criticized by the use of instances of horror which they are believed to illustrate a darkness spell which is not a surprising phenomenon at all. The author should have created dramatic experiences that have a record of achieving ‘a better track record’ compared to the other horror scenes in other works of art (Vlastelica, 4). The novel presents a scary instance that is way beyond the explanation of horror films.
Conclusion
The evaluation of the social contribution of Stephen King presents a combination of various approaches to understanding the nature of his work. Such a scrutiny has been made possible through his involvement in impacting both positively and negatively in the world of writing.
