Abstract
This paper looks into the important lesson which I have learned from the study of chapter eight on the various theories of motivation. The understanding of motivation theories is important not only to the managers in carrying their duties but also to the learners. To understand the importance of studying motivation it is essential to look at the various theories of motivation. The major theories of motivation are the hierarchy of needs theory, the two-factor theory, expectancy theory, and the goal theory among others. Firms are started with the aim of maximizing shareholders’ wealth. The business owners hire managers who run the businesses on their behalf. The managers are responsible for the day to day running of the business. Managers communicate the company objectives to the employees and direct them towards their achievement. For the employees to achieve the goals set by the organization they need to be motivated. It is the duty of the farm manager to motivate his/her employees. Motivation is the act of stimulating employees to act in a manner which will result in achievement of organizational goals.
The Three Most Important Things
From the study of employee motivation, various lessons can be drawn. The firm manager understands best how to align with the organization’s interest with those of the employees. Motivation arises from intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors are internal factors to the employee and include issues such as fear of failure and need to excel among others.
Wait! the three most important things paper is just an example!
The Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a theory illustrating levels of priorities of needs of an individual. The two factor model by Hertzberg looks into motivation by analyzing job factors which are classified as either leading to satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Maslow’s model looks into five levels of needs that need to be fulfilled before motivation can be achieved. At the top of the needs is the self-actualization where one feels motivated after his physiological needs are met. An employee will be more productive if he is paid enough to cater for his family basic needs such as food. Hertzberg classified satisfiers as intrinsic motivational factors impacting on the long-term behavior of an employee. He classified dissatisfiers as being extrinsic but in the short run change behavior of the employees. Vroom’s equity theory illustrates how employees can be motivated by providing equity regarding work output and the benefits offered by the organization (“Three Main Theories of Motivation,” 2018).
The study of motivation is crucial in understanding what motivates employees and increase their output. The reward system of an organization is created by understanding what motivates employees and the best environment in which they can increase their productivity.
Through the study of motivation, we can understand the human nature which results from having an effective management of the organization. There are rapid changes in today’s business requiring managers to motivate employees as well as help them optimize their performance. Motivated employees have proven to be more productive and innovative (“Motivation,” 2018).
