In establishing new intimate relationships, the first impression plays a vital role in laying a robust foundation for future intimate engagements. The first impression is the mental and emotional opinion one has after the first brief meeting with another. It is influenced by how one presents themselves physically, choice of words, handling of situations and the articulation of their thoughts among others (Miller 108). This concept is particularly important because it determines how one party perceives another in the process of establishing intimate relationships. For instance, during the first meeting, one may be looking forward to finding a person who has a robust and positive towards life. However, the person they meet might be mentally weak and easily swayed by hardships. After that initial meeting, one will, therefore, tend to avoid any future encounters with the subject person which would effectively narrow down chances of an intimate relationship.
Learning the concept of first impression and its value in intimate relationships is fundamentally essential. It will help one to preempt the possibility of dealing with uncertainties later in the course of a relationship (Miller 111). Mostly, first impressions can make or break a relationship. Interpersonal attraction is what makes relationship progress into full-blown love relationships. Snap judgments regarding your partner are unavoidable, and, in most cases, they are downright instinctual.

Often, it takes a few seconds for one to decide about their partner’s personalities. Armed with the crucial knowledge of the impact of first impressions I will purpose to cultivate a memorable character that will enable me to initiate beneficial relationships. Insights from the study of first impressions have also helped me to understand that one should purpose to leave a first impression that is commensurate with their character.
