Relapse Intervention.
A relapse is a normal event in lifestyle changes. Every progress that an individual makes in behavioral change depends on the stage he or she belongs at the time of intervention. The Watson’s employees are experiencing a relapse between 6 to 12 months. This is a contemplation stage of changing behavior (Prochaska et al., 2001).
Applying transtheoretical model, Jill Watson should intervene the situation by encouraging the employees. By telling them that they have learned something even though the relapse has occurred. For example, if some of the employees previously stooped smoking, then probably they already learned that they could avoid respiratory health issues if they do not smoke. It would help them progress to another stage (Prochaska et al., 2001). Also according to the transtheoretical model, Watson should come up with tactics that would help in assessing the employees’ progress in changing their behaviors.
Reason(s) why the first three TTM stages should not be assessed.
According to U.S. Department of Health (1990) there exist three stages of changing human behavior in the transtheoretical model. First is precontemplation, here is whereby an individual intends to take action. In this stage, individuals are less informed of the consequences of their behavior. Two is the contemplation stage. Here an individual is fully aware of the costs of his or her behavior.
The third stage in the TTM is preparation.

Here is the stage where an individual has a plan to take action. Now considering the Watson employees’ condition, it shows that they passed the three stages. Therefore they should not be assessed on the three stages. One, they are aware of their negative lifestyle behavior, normally the preconception state in transtheoretical model (U.S. Department of Health, 1990). Also, the employees are aware of results of the attending the fitness classes, that they would get into good shapes, this means they are already aware of the benefits of their behavior, this a contemplation stage. Also, the employees are willing and ready to start attending the free fitness lessons; this shows that the employees have already passed the preparation stage in the TTM since they have taken a step on their behavior.
