Trump First Year as President
According to the piece titled “Trump’s first year proves we are incredibly fortunate to have him as our president” by Newt Gingrich it is evident that the author aims at praising, acknowledging and emphasizing on the actions he views Trump has succeeded to perform at the expense of what Trump has failed to achieve. From this column, it is clear that the author sees the media as a barrier towards Trump’s success. However, Newt is ignorant of the roles of the media and their reason for resistance in his aim to express Trump’s success. “Syndrome that the media, unfortunately, suffer from has become a major barrier to accurate coverage of the trump presidency”(Gingrich). From the article mentioned earlier it is clear that Trump has achieved quite a good number of the promises he made and some of them include approval of 12 judges he appointed, to revoke some of Obama’s health care regulation, as the capital city of Israel, and most of all he has ensured an economic growth. On the other hand, he has failed to achieve “good infrastructure, a solution to the high rate of poverty among some American citizens and a solution to the intensified racism” (Gingrich). From the above mentioned Trump’s merits and demerits, it is clear that the columnist of this piece is biased and unrealistic on some issues such as his accusation of media as a distract of Trump’s achievement and his claim that Trump is effectively more than rival due to the diverse grounds in which each president stands.

Wait! Trump First year as President. paper is just an example!

Newt Gingrich has failed to recognize the purpose of the media in a nation’s politics in that he has openly bashed press on how they have strived distort and minimize the accomplishment of President Donald Trump. “The opposition in the news media and among the left-wing “resistance” has been so strong and one-sided that they have consistently misrepresented and maligned President Trump and his administration” (Gingrich). From this statement it is clear that Newt is criticizing the media for news, they made concerning Trump, and the columnist tries to convey that the press has failed in their duties which is not the case. The power of the media is undisputed; hence there are no chances a political figure will make rude remarks or unethical actions without that action being exposed to the public (Martin). It is from such exposure and media effort to inform the public about the things Trump has failed or is doing in a wrong way that made Newt criticize the media hence he has been unable to recognize media role in his urge to acknowledge Trump’s success. Newt goes on to acknowledge a comment by Professor Allen Guelzo whereby he compares the resistant Trump is facing equally to that Abraham Lincoln suffered from the southern slave owners. Therefore, a question arises is the media against Trump’s competence and success or Trump’s incompetence and failures and the answer is media is right in their role of highlighting president failures and not to cover or distort Trump’s success hence Newt has failed to acknowledge the role of the press. “The media that is covering news in the US is the same media that existed even during Obama tenure, and it’s their role to reveal Trump’s deliberate deception, lies, his torrent of falsehood and failures and not to bash his success as Newt expressed in his article.” (Martin)
In the article named earlier by Newt Gingrich, it is clear that the columnist has failed to give a detailed comparison between Trump and the other eight presidents he knows to bring out that competence in his aim of expressing Trump’s merits; hence I do not agree with his claim that Trump is competent. I believe it is clear from the first paragraph of Newt’s report that he aims at expressing the impressiveness of Trump but in the second paragraph, Newt starts communicating how media is offering stiff resistance in his administration. Therefore, it is from that inclusion of media in the article where I do not agree with Newt’s claim that Trump is cogent because one cannot be effective yet at the same time he/she is experiencing strong resistance, hence resistance is a clear indication that Trump is not cogent. The second fact that justifies that Trump is not efficient is that the author wanted to express Trump’s effectiveness compared to his predecessors however he does not provide a ground upon which that impressiveness is gauged. “Of the nine, the only one who was as effective as president Trump in his first year was President Ronald Reagan” (Gingrich). Obama inherited a nation that faced a worse economic crisis than Trump hence saying Trump is more efficient than Obama, for instance, due to unemployment level is unrealistic. If Newt wanted to measure the competence of the nine presidents he acknowledges Newt should have set ethical guidelines on how to determine if one was cogent or not. “The effectiveness of a president is not merely based on his ability to fulfill the promises he made while campaigning because they might not be substantial and also because each president has his diverse goals and promises” (Maranto 5). Therefore, if the impressiveness Newt is terming in his article is based on Trump’s ability to fulfill promises he should have gone to the extra step of analyzing the similarities of trumps goals and those of his predecessors and since they are different, I conclude that Newt is biased and his claim that Trump is more competent is false. Furthermore, each president has his diverse beliefs and views and from a different party. “For instance, Trump is conservative while Obama was liberal, Trump wishes to repeal the Obamacare while Obama was for it hence if Trump succeeded in repealing some Obamacare regulation one cannot term that effectiveness because the other party didn’t have the same goals” (Maranto 5). Therefore, Trump is not cogent “more” than his predecessors as Newt tries to put it due to the different grounds in which each president stood.
In conclusion, the views other writers say about this piece and Newt Gingrich at large is that this columnist is a biased author who aims as portraying Trump as a hero as evident in this column I am rebutting and his other works such as his book which is titled “Understanding Trump.” I cannot deny the fact that the media has openly shown their resistance to Trump’s leadership, however, their reason for resistance is not to belittle Trump’s success as Newt puts it in his item, but their opposition is due to the lies and deception of Trump. This claim is justifiable in the essence that a president cannot gain media favor when he is exercising bigotry-laced politics that support racism and mass killing which negatively affect the citizens. Moreover, if Newt wants to gauge the competence of a president, he should consider presidents with similar views, probably from the same party and go ahead in assessing who is the most effective among them. Therefore, Trump’s ability to achieve what another president did not advocate for is not a ground of measuring effectiveness such as the issue of Obamacare, aspects of the American embassy and the concern of the military.
