University Of British Columbia Personal Profile.
In the recent years, I have realized that every person has confronted problems that are unique to themselves from time to time because of the choices they make. About a year ago, I volunteered to teach piano lessons to a 2nd-grade student. Teaching lessons to someone else were something new to me. During my preparation for the lessons, I only thought of the materials that I would teach, but I did not know how teaching matters just as much. The challenge was that it was impossible to keep a six-year-old interested in a book with black and white bars. Seeing no improvements, I reached out to my piano teacher for advice, and she told me to be creative in how I teach and let them be engaged in the lesson. From that point forward, I made posters with new bars, and instead of having the book show each code, I displayed it on the piano and had her color on the sign. From this experience, I learned that nothing comes easy at first and that I have to develop the best attitudes and incorporate them into agendas to create excellent results.
During these moments of triumph and struggle in my CAS (creativity, activity, and service) project, I have come to learn some of the experiences that have undergone have changed me into a more applicable person in my community. The attitudes that have been instilled in me have given me a rare opportunity to push my limits and to discover how much potential I have and to strive to help others to achieve the same kind of lifestyle that I have set for myself by being a good role model to my siblings, my friends, and my community.

This has also encompassed my life as a member of Student Council, community services, and sports. I have recognized that different forms of leadership skills are required to get the best outcome in each group. For example, in Student Council, I was an encourager and a planner, in community services, I was an idea bank, and in sports groups, I was a pusher. This skills will, in turn, help me shape my society by making it better and that I do hope will be my way of giving back what has been given to me by the people in my life.
I am the first child in my family, I have younger siblings who look up to me for advice, and since I have grown up in Thailand where my family was residing in a rice mill, some of the cultural values associated with the place have been a part of my life. Responsibility is very prominent in my life as everyone has given me opportunities where only a responsible person can do the work. I am self-assured, caring and most of all I have come to appreciate the little things in life. For example, I put a great deal of value on both academic studies and extracurricular activities. People will say that I may be persistent since I am always doing my best in all the activities I participate in and I am not one to give up easily when faced with problems. Another factor that makes me responsible is that I live in boarding school away from my parents. It has made me learn how to be accountable for the choices that I make. My friends in the boarding school often say that I am a considerate person since I helped new students in boarding settle well in the new environment by advising them on the specific rules, what to be careful of and the little details that were not given to them by the teachers.
The people that surround me in my everyday life are important to me. I see my strength as caring for other people and the people who reside in my life, be it family, friends or the occasional neighbor, have taught me the value of care and its goodness through giving me the same gift of caring for me. I see this as the encouragement that my peers and mentors give me and the dependability in all of them when I have suggestions on various projects that I would like to do which has proven to be an excellent environment to grow up in considering my all-rounded social well being. I enjoy the new company and a chance to know or learn from new experiences or people.
– The Village School Support Fund (VSSF) is an organization which involves volunteering, planning and working together to bring about the different methods of raising money to support a local village school in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I contribute to leading several fundraising events (e.g., bake sale), as well as teaching English and arranging fun activities for the children.
– The Student Council is a student organization at my high school. My position here is being the Entertainment Committee leader. I am in charge of gathering ideas from committee members to organize social events around the school such as spirit week, dance, and prom to maintain the students’ engagement and school spirit.
– As a piano tutor, I have been teaching piano to a 6-year old student at the school. I have been focusing on training both practical and musical theory skills to my student in which I use unique and easy learning steps. The student has learned to play many short pieces and has shown a considerable amount of progress throughout.
– I was on the varsity team for both soccer and volleyball during the seasons. I demonstrated effort, resilience, respect, and commitment in both training and matches. We participated in the Chiang Mai Athletics Conference (CMAC) tournaments and won a bronze medal for both sports.
