Contemporary scholars term the United States of America constitution as a pro-slavery document which makes it a weighty academic and legal situation. The viewpoint of this paper is that indeed the US constitution is a proslavery document. This is because it protected slavery while also promoting ownership of slaves. In the constitution, several clauses are entirely proslavery. For instance, in the US constitution, there is a provision that provided for the adding of slaves in the Congress to boost their representation. The clause also provided for cementing of slavery in the American society through the establishment of political goodwill in the Congress. Besides, the provision ensured that slave states were well covered in the Electoral College which is mandated with overseeing the presidential election (Brands, Breen, Williams & Gross, 2015). Second, the constitution through the slave import limitation barred the Congress from controlling the global trade until the early 1800s when the law was ratified. The article forbid the Congress against revising the clause.
Therefore, it is clear that the constitution supported the growth and rooting of the slave trade. It allowed for the adding of representation powers of states that were pro-slave, sternly preventing the Congress from regulating global slave trade and consenting to the call by slave owners to take back forcefully slaves who had escaped or were freed.

Also, the constitution permitted the unregulated flow of slaves for close to 21 years while also ensuring that the political goodwill of their masters was secured through three-fifth representation rule (Brands et al. 2015). However, some quarters of the scholarly world argue that the Reconstruction abolished slavery and assured for equality. It is true the Reconstruction allowed for the abolishment of slavery only superficially because only the rules of slavery and slave ownership changed while white domination over the slaves remained intact. For instance, slave coded were converted to black codes which were significantly against nonwhites living in the US.
