Walmart Incorporated, formerly Wal – Mart Stores partakes in the retail, wholesale and other units in various formats across the globe. The company offers services at every day low prices. It runs approximately 11,600 stores under 59 banners across twenty-eight countries and e-commerce websites in 11 countries.
Over the years, Walmart has transformed into a company that values diversity and putting in place measures that see anyone from anywhere across the globe has an equal employment opportunities Walmart is a diverse employer. According to Parker (1), the company has employed over 150,000 Hispanic American, over 225,000 African Americans, over 815,000 women and employees over 55 years of age making up more than 240,000 workers in the firm. Richard et al. (2227) explain that the success of Walmart within the highly competitive market has been because of high levels of respect shown to the affiliate members and offering everyone from any cultural, religious and country equal and quality services. The high level of diversity within Walmart has also been visible in acts such as teaming up with the Japanese e-commerce company to tackle Amazon as reported by the Independent business news.
Walmart company in comparison to its competitors across the world needs to re-strategize to catch up. In 2017, the company reported a rise in the total revenue by 4.23% against other businesses that recorded revenue growth of 18.

17% in a single quarter. Walmart recorded lower profits than its worthy rivals. The overall net worth income declined by -40.54% faster than the opponents who were -2.12%. These competitors comprise Amazon, Lowes, and Home Incorporations among others. Despite the hurdles, Walmart ranks 1st according to Fortune’s 500 lists of 2017 with a revenue of $485,873 (WMT’s comparison of Quarterly Growth Rates to its Peers).
Walmart has therefore incorporated several programs that will enable it to embrace diversity within its daily operations. Some of the programs include supporting enterprises that are owned and ran by minorities and women. Walmart invested up to $25 million in a private firm controlled by minority and the women groups in the United States of America. The Supplier Development Program started in 1994 has enabled the company to boost their business relationships with new suppliers, women, and minority suppliers. Moreover, Walmart’s Legal Diversity program has promoted diversity within its outside team of legal officers (Diversity is a Way of Life at Wal-Mart).
In summary, Walmart has recognized the opportunities that lie within embracing diversity within the business market. They have invested heavily in a business operation that ensures there is the element of diversity in the enterprise. As a result, the company has continued to perform exemplary within the highly competitive retail market.
