A Weapon of mass destruction (WMD) can be described as any form of weapons such as radiological, biological, nuclear, and chemical or any other form that can destroy human, artificial and natural structures in large quantity. The types of weapons used must have the ability to significantly result in the considerate number of deaths of people and massive destruction of natural and human-made structures for it to be considered as WMD. The weapons can be identified in forms of nuclear, biological, radiological chemical, and explosive. These forms of weapons of mass destruction can release or disseminate either poisonous or toxic chemicals that are harmful. Biological weapons can have a biological agent in them while the radiological weapons can be used to release radioactivity or radiations in the amount that is very dangerous.
The Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC) play an essential role in protecting the country from weapons of mass destruction attacks involving radioactive materials and dissemination of chemical and biological agents. During the occurrences and after, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention come in to assist the authorities, the locals, and the states to have the heath of people protected (Levi, 2009). The centers also give them advice so that they take appropriate steps that the affected people could take to minimize the level of exposure to the chemicals, explosives, and radiation.

The CDC assess the people’s health in case of CBRNE attacks, assess any effects that might have caused by the exposure to the chemicals and radiation to different people who might have played a role in rescue during attacks (Levi, 2009). It as well provides technical and advisory services to the states and the affected people as well as keeping registry of people affected.
