White Privilege
In the movie “BlackKKKlansman” by Spike Lee, one common theme seems to stand out. Although the movie entails an illustration of a society ridden with socio-political mayhem, one can’t help but notices how white supremacy comes into play (Agonizo 2018). The movie is set during the 20th century, the 70s to be specific, in Colorado, at a time when the Ku Klux Klan was a force to reckon with. A new insight is provided as we get to learn how the occult used white privilege as a tool to recruit poor white men into the group to further their agenda. According to Carr (2016), white privilege remains a phenomenon that has not been fully explored hence is difficult for many to comprehend. It has been defined in multiple ways, however, Gardiner (2009) summarizes it as a form of white supremacy power associated with being white and allows a white person to control, oppress, destroy and disempower people of color.
Psychological Effect of White Supremacy.
White supremacy is structured in such a way that it allows total dominance of white people over people of color. In South Africa, for instance, the apartheid system divided people on a hierarchical basis, placing white people on the top while the local black people at the very bottom (Halvorsrud 2017). It can be argued that white supremacy adopts a two-sided effect on the psychological status of both oppressors and the oppressed. With the whites, white supremacy gives them a God-like status, making them feel entitled and invincible.

This allows them to carry out any inhumane acts on their colored victims without fear of repercussion. Nogueira (2013) explains that the acceptance and privilege associated with being white create an “illusory overvaluation condition of their appearance and ways of being.” Such psychological assumptions create a barrier between them and others, making them fail to acknowledge other people’s humanity (Nogueira 2013).
From the colored people’s aspect, white supremacy bears massive psychological impacts such as fear, trauma and even depression. According to Nogueira (2013), the portrayal of whites as more superior to colored people, over the years, has affected their general sense of pride and self-esteem in their appearance, making them desire to be like white people. In today’s society, white supremacy has been encrypted into the minds of people affecting their perception on a number of issues, such as beauty. Cosmetic operations such as skin lightening are, for instance, quite common among colored people, celebrities even, as it enables them to fit the “light skin” status, regarded by many as an epitome of beauty. Skin darkening, on the other hand, by white people remains unheard of. Nogueira (2013) blames this situation on a prolonged period of psychological terrorism from white supremacists in multiple colonized nations such as Brazil.
Conclusion
Although sadistic white supremacists may argue that they are trying to preserve purity of their race, it is an obvious fact that their motive largely depends on the psychology of hatred for its existence and deride, as it was evident with the KKK. The end result is usually death, suffering, and further racial segregation. According to Agonizo (2018), a majority of white people are lured into white supremacist agendas through promises such as more jobs, proper education, better security, and even economic development with the elimination or oppression of the colored race. In Lee’s movie, for instance, the poor white people in Colorado were misled by the KKK perpetrators into hating African Americans, pushing them to an extent of suicide bombings just to eliminate colored people. However, Lee graphically points out that in most of the attacks launched on people of color, a majority of the victims end up being white people. This draws the conclusion that white supremacy is based on a psychological hoax, whose residual effects weigh more on the white person than on any other race.
