Gun ControlGun control saves lives. Reducing the number of people owning guns is a way to reduce mass shootings in the United States. The number of deaths is on the rise on a daily basis because more people purchase guns every day claiming they are for self-defense but the firearms end up killing innocent citizens. Gun control regulations protect children and families. Firearms in America develop a public health catastrophe that is attacking children. Statistics show that approximately eight children are killed every day. Stronger laws should be put in place to protect children (Newman & Hartman 15). Taking away automatic weapons will reduce mass shootings because people will not be in possession of the guns to commit crimes. Regulations alone are not the solution to mass shootings as some people commit the crimes. A section of gun holders cannot control the use of such weapons, and therefore the best choice is to take them off their hands.
The second amendment was intended to protect people in a time of zero law enforcement and not to possess personal firearms. When the second amendment was passed, the military and law enforcement that exists today to safeguard people was not existent. The original amendment noted that a well-regulated militia had the right to possess guns for the security of the nation. Such wordings have been manipulated by lawmakers to mean that all people should own firearms. This should not be the situation since the country today has military and the police, implying civilians do not honestly need guns (Newman & Hartman 23).

Given the ease and finality that such weapons can end lives, not all people should be allowed to possess them, more so assault rifles that do extreme harm to with ease. Ordinary people do not need attack weapons.
