Adaptive Immunity Discussion
The immune system refers to the natural defense mechanism in the body that shields the body from bacteria and other harmful foreign substances. Similarly to the immune system, the inflammatory system serves as a defense mechanism when the body experiences an injury. From an analytical viewpoint, the immune and the inflammatory system both play a significant role when it comes to protecting the body from infections.
The immune system functions as a defense mechanism by detecting and handling antigens. When the system detects an abnormality, the abnormality is subdued by the T-cells and the B-cells which emanate from the thymus and bone respectively (Zmora et al., 2017). The main function of the cells is to eliminate foreign substances from the body. The involved mechanical defenses deal with harmful antigens that trigger the occurrence of symptoms such as sneezing and coughing. The basic view is that when a harmful organism attacks the body, the immune system begins to manufacture and release antibodies to deal with the harmful substance. The development of the antibodies makes an individual immune from experiencing more infection (Zmora et al., 2017). The associated idea is that a resilient immune system exhibits the ability to recall and release antibodies to deal with an infection before it causes further harm.
The inflammatory system serves as the natural defense mechanism when the body experiences injury by shielding the body from pathogens that include fungi, viruses and other forms of the parasite (Mayer & Bhikha, 2013).

The occurrence of acute inflammation results in the production of erythrocytes, leukocytes and plasma components which are directed towards the injured tissue. The absence of inflammation may result in death even when the body experiences a minor cut (Mayer & Bhikha, 2013). Therefore, the basic assumption is that the body requires both the immune and the inflammatory systems to shield it from harm.
