The case covers Airbnb’s recent rebranding strategy. As a part of rebranding, the company adopts a new logo and symbol that would be the company’s brand identity. Customers could customize the logo and use it for all communications involving the company with third parties. The rebranding also saw the company change their website substantially and as well as their mobile applications.
Key facts that should be considered from the rebranding include the effort by the company to create a new brand identity that involved customers in the brand image of the company. Using the company’s site was also made easier for customers through the rebranding.
A major strength of the rebranding process is the inclusion of customers in the company’s brand image. By enabling customers to use the company’s logo and brand image in their interactions, the company improves its brand recognition and awareness in the market (Marion 1). The fact that the website became easier to use; more information is also a key strength of the rebranding process. A major weakness of the rebranding strategy lies in the fact that despite the rebranding process, the logo remained relatively the same as the previous one, meaning there was negligible change in the company’s brand identity.
