Diminishing Marginal Utility
Name
Institutional Affiliation
Case 1: Winning Lunch and Dinner Pizzas
The concept of diminishing marginal utility means that the utility gotten from eating of the first unit will not be the same utility obtained from eating a second unit or a third one decreases as the consumed groups pile up (Elsner et al., 2015). The utility will decrease as one consumes more of the pizza. However, the consumer product should be a normal good. In the pizza case, the utility derived from eating the pizza on the first day will be very high. However, on the tenth day, the marginal utility will be lower compared to the first day. There would be diminishing marginal utility although the total utility will increase with declining marginal utility. On the thirtieth day, the marginal utility would be negative as the consumption stops satisfying the consumer. There will be lost interest in eating the pizzas anymore and thus the negative marginal utility.
Case 2: Gasoline Offer
The free offer for Gasoline will result in very high utility on the first day. On the tenth day, the marginal utility stagnates, and if it reduces, it does so at a meager rate. On the tenth day and the thirtieth day, the marginal utility will almost be the same, or there will be no significant changes as consumption of the item will remain.
Difference
The two cases are innately different where the first case increased consumption led to reduced marginal utility while in the second case, the marginal utility stagnated.

Wait! diminished marginal utility paper is just an example!

Gasoline is not a normal good, and the gasoline consumer cannot lose interest or get dissatisfied like the pizza consumer. In this regard, pizza consumer is human, while Gasoline consumer is a car. It will travel the same distances every day and need refilling without ever becoming thoroughly satiated.
