Encouragement for first-year college friendIt feels great to join college and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on securing a position at the college. Although I may not be physically present at the college to guide you through in a number of tasks, I can guarantee you that I will be there for you both psychologically and emotionally. I would like to emphasize that the bond we have managed to develop over the years we have been friends is unshakeable and even distance cannot interfere with it. On that line of thought, our memories will still remain fresh. I know that some courses at the college may be challenging but you will need to put more effort because I have faith in you that you can indeed do it. That being the case, I would like to share with you my proficiency in algebra which I know will be significant in your academics. Most formulas that you will be using at the college will be in the form of an algebraic expression.
The basic principle of calculating algebra
Grouping the like-terms together; it is important when doing an algebraic calculation that terms which are similar to a group together so that the algebraic equation can be realistic. For instance,
A + B + C+ B + A
This can be simplified as; 2(A + B) + C. This property of algebra is regarded as distributive where the similar terms with common multiplication factor are grouped together.
Algebras have commutative property; this is to mean that it can be rearranged but still will give the same results; for instance,
abc = cba or a+ b + c = c+a+b (Khan Academy, n.

Another important property of algebra is on exponents; in case, the base values are the same, then the exponents can be added if it is multiplication and deducted if it is division.
For instance; axay = ax+y
