Abstract
Global warming exists and is causing great problems in the world. The survival of the world is at great risk because of the effects global warming and climate change have on the world. Global warming is caused by the rise in greenhouse effects. It is as a result of both natural and anthropogenic factors, but research has shown that human factors are dominant in the increase in global temperatures. Specific properties of global warming include a rise in sea level, development of extreme climatic conditions and destruction of ecosystems. There is a great need for the development of mitigation measures. Some of them include the development of clean and alternative sources of energy and carbon sequestration. The success of the above mitigation measures, however, rely on the existence of effective policies.
Global warming is a very common aspect of the world of today. It is a major example of climate change, and it is associated with a rise in the temperature of the earth which is causing various effects on the world. One major factor associated with global warming is that research and records from the past century show that the rise in temperature has been as a result of anthropogenic factors. Humanmade effect forms the dominant cause of the rise in temperature, and it has highlighted on various human activities that involve energy use, and the rise in population in the world. The largest influence created by anthropogenic effects includes the emission of greenhouse gases from production processes associated with industrialization.

The burning of fossil fuels which is done in industries to generate energy for production produces high levels of carbon dioxide that causes trapping of terrestrial radiation in the atmosphere by preventing its dissipation into space. There are also other potent greenhouse gases such as methane which is also released in large quantities as a result of different human activities. Findings from research especially from industrialized nations have received national and international acceptance as a result of the relationships between the effects and human activities. Global warming has received great attention, especially in the last decade. The reason for the high attention is because of the effects it has on the world and the survival of life on earth in the years to come. As part of climate change global warming is causing great changes in climatic systems around the world. Extreme climatic conditions in the form of hurricanes, long periods of drought, wildfires, and floods are some examples of the effects it has on climatic conditions (Pickrell, 2018).
Another major effect caused by global warming is the rise in sea level caused by melting of polar ice. This is a problem because of disappearing land mass, especially at the coats as a result of too much water released from melted ice. Another important is the destabilization of marine life caused by the death of corals caused by the rise in sea levels. Global warming is, therefore, a phenomenon that has put the world at great risk of environmental problems. Because of the findings that link it to human activities, measures need to be made to mitigate the problems and safeguard the future of the world form environmental destruction (Benjamin, Por, & Budescu, 2017).
Global warming is a natural process that helps keep the world warm and ensure survival. There are many greenhouses gases with carbon dioxide and water vapor being of highest quantity. Natural causes of changes in the temperature of the earth include changes in the sun’s energy towards the earth. Variations in solar radiation do occur and are caused by sunspots. Variation in radiation is responsible for naturally occurring global warming phenomena. Another example of a natural cause of global warming and climate change is volcanic eruptions which are usually sources of great amounts of carbon dioxide, volcanic dust, and other materials. Too much of these greenhouses gases causes a rise in the global temperature. Naturally occurring processes that cause global warming have existed for many years. They are mostly unpredictable and do not have great effects on the climatic system because they offer the earth time to recover back to its natural system. However, anthropogenic activities that include industrialization have caused a continuous rise in global temperatures. The need for energy for production and fuel has led to bringing of fossil fuels at very high levels and have caused a great rise in the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (Pickrell, 2018).
As explained above human activities associated with industrialization and the need for fuel are dominant causes of the rise in temperature in the world. The demand for energy in the world has gone high up and is causing a higher level of emissions of greenhouse gases. A major source of energy is fossil fuel for which when used releases carbon dioxide. One measure that can be used to mitigate the effects of global warming is the development of alternative forms of energy. There are very many sources of clean energy which can be used as alternatives to fossil fuels. A good example is an electricity which can be generated from hydro-electric, power, geothermal, nuclear power, wind, solar and many other sources. These are examples of clean energy sources that can be used to generate energy for the production process. Use of clean energy would help mitigate the problem of global warming by reducing the production of greenhouses gases (Ullah, Nagelkerken, Goldenberg, & Fordham, 2018).
Another measure that would be effective in mitigating the problems of global warming is associated with the development of measures to reduce the amount of greenhouses gases already in the atmosphere. Carbon sequestration is associated with the conversion of active carbon dioxide into inactive carbon which can be stored in the ground in the state that cannot cause harm. Planting of trees through afforestation and reforestation are examples of effective ways of reducing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and increasing sequestration. Carbon sequestration through tree planting offers an effective and natural way of increasing vegetation and dropping the effects of global heating through the lessening of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and into the ground (De La Fuente, Rojas, & Mac Lean, 2017).
The fight against global warming is highly dependent on the development of effective policies which would offer guidelines as to how well to mitigate the issue. One important policy issue is the need for countries of the world to be committed to the reduction of emission of greenhouse gases. The Kyoto protocol is well known for its focus on issues of global warming and involved various important decisions. It specified the need to develop policies to reduce the emission of other gases in addition to carbon dioxide, such as methane, nitrous oxide among others. Another policy change includes the development of support development of national climate policies. The success of the effectiveness of global warming reduction policies depends on the existence of support systems to help countries implement the policies. Countries are, therefore, encouraged to collaborate with one another in the effort to reduce emissions and implementation of other policies. The development of economic signals which are policies that influence the process of production of various goods can be effective in the development of environmentally friendly production and activities to reduce emission. They include the imposition of carbon taxation or the use of subsidies for the development of environmentally friendly technologies and products. The development of policies that promote the use of performance standards offers effective measure by developing a minimum level for which organizations have to perform. Another issue of policy is associated with the development of policies focused on the development of innovations that would help reduce the effects of global warming (Pickrell, 2018).
