Parent Conferences
Teacher/Parent conferences are essential to enable the teacher to clarify expectations, learning gaps and other challenges that the learner could be facing and improvement areas. It is a way of allowing the teacher and parent to understand more of the attributes of the child. From the video, the most helpful information is where the teacher asks the parent whether she has any questions prior the beginning of the conference (“How to Have a Successful…”). Giving the parent an opportunity to ask the question about the learner and other aspects helps the teacher to clarify issues and ensure a smooth and productive conversation. This information was helpful since I now understand the necessity of giving the parents a chance to ask questions before the conference and ensure that all pertinent issues are addressed. It is also a way of keeping the parent at ease with the teacher, thus enhancing an interactive and stimulating conversation. It enables her to understand that the parent is interested while to the parent, it creates confidence since they know that the teacher is interested in their concerns.
I was concerned by the absence of the child since she was never involved in the conference from the start to the end. She should be included at least at some point of the conference to enable her to participate in the interactive discussion and give an opportunity to express her views, concerns, and opinions. Her participation is essential to ensure that the actual issues discussed in the conference create the highest benefit to the child.

As a personal reflection, the most impacting aspect of the teacher-parent conference was on the way they interacted actively, demonstrating the appropriateness of non-verbal cues and keenness of both parties (“How to Have a Successful….”). The interactive session was very informative and useful since both speakers demonstrated a lot of attentiveness when discussing issues.
