Abstract
Anyone managing a business information system for a company will understand that the users’ needs evolve rapidly as the types and sources of information needed for decision-making proliferate. Thus, it is important for managers to watch the trends that occur in this area to evaluate how those trends might affect the business. The modern society is the technology and innovation-driven. There is no doubt about the fact that technology has replaced several people at work and also made other workers redundant. On the other hand, it is a good thing because companies can drive value from their business information systems. Amazon, for instance, is known to be one of the biggest retail companies that largely rely on E-commerce and business information systems. Such organizations do not only need good information management systems but also need to keep up with technological trends because this is the area where more changes occur rapidly.
Shared Practice Reflection and Trends
The course has offered a wide knowledge as far as the business information system is concerned. One of the lessons that I have learned is that business information systems need to be exploited to make an organization more efficient, facilitate business strategy development and to provide accessible communication. Secondly, information systems usually affect how organizations operate hence those in charge needs to understand why it’s important to manage and maintain these systems.

One thing that surprised me was the importance of a chief information officer to answer critical questions like how the IT department functions, what is the status of the project, what resources are needed and what returns IT is giving to the business from the investment made (Munro & Khan, 2017). Many organizations operate without them, but it turns out that they have a critical role as well.
One of the trends in business information systems that I believe will have a big impact on Amazon’s business model is data mining. Data mining is important in the business because the company uses the information to check the behaviors of their customers and how they can improve their situation to increase their sales (Vitez, 2018). It gives the entrepreneur a clear detail of what goods should be included in the business and the ones to reduce their quantity in the business to that they ensure that they maximize the profit in every sale they make. Another trend is the new careers in database management. Because of this trend, a pool of experts in database management and consulting will be available to offer solutions that relate to business information systems.
Organizations can employ technology and business information systems to promote positive social change by making information readily accessible to a bigger audience. For instance, Wikipedia empowers self-education across very many topics.
