As long as we talk about contemporary art we can realize that there are many different opinions and thoughts about their meaning and evolution. Many people try to deny the works of art that are called contemporary art. However, it is increasingly difficult to ignore what artists are creating, because they actually use techniques and ideas that distingu them and make them explicit in one way or another. We must take into account many important factors when we analyze a work of art, so that in the end we can conclude by ourselves, whether this is art or not. The objective of this work is not only to determine and present my personal reflections on the subject contemporary art, but also refer to the public of influential styles, advertising and economics.
As a starting point, I have never had a very deep relationship with art, but the subject and the artists studied made me realize the importance and excellence of contemporary art. For me it is always difficult to understand and interpret art just looking at a work of art. Contemporary artists use different forms of drawing styles, different materials and different instruments to create their works. They also address interpersonal relationships and problems of the contemporary world. And yet, the interpretation of art seems to be quite difficult. Therefore, I am of the opinion that in the first place it is really crucial to seek background information about the artist, since the experiences of this person and the movement to which he belongs can tell us a lot about the meaning of the work and the message that the artist wants to send us.
Wait! The New Artistic Manifestations paper is just an example!
In addition, we must read about the social and political situation of the time when the work of art was created, since contemporary artists consider their own times and culture in their works, the important social and political issues of their time, the important events of world history. Having all this in mind and having investigated the most influential artists and their works of art, I can completely agree with the definition given by Marilina Maraviglia in her article in Smashingmagazine. And so art is defined in this article: „Art can generally be understood as any activity or product carried out by people with a communicative or aesthetic purpose, something that expresses an idea, an emotion or, more generally, a worldview. It is a component of culture, which reflects economic and social substrates in its design. Transmits ideas and values inherent to each culture through space and time."
To put it simply, for me art is the process of organizing elements and objects deliberately in a way that causes the senses and emotions of the public. And we do talk about "contemporary" art, we can say that it is the art that is created in our time and that consists in presenting a wide range of human activities, creations and forms of expression, including music, literature, cinema, sculpture and painting.
I have already read many articles written by experts and critics, which proclaim a simple object, "La Source" by Marcel Duchamp, as the most influential piece of the twentieth century. This is a work of art, in which Duchamp uses the "" Readymade ", taking an object of the daily life that already exists – a urinary, and transforms this object into art only by signing it and placing it into an exhibition in the museum. Until now, nothing motivates me to think that Duchamp created a work of art, because it lacks meaning and emotions. However, if I keep reading about the history and evolution of the piece, I begin to reconsider and admit that we can put the contemporary art label. At the beginning, “Duchamp just wanted to buy a urinary, preferably portable and small enough to be able to easily send it to the first exhibition of the Society of Independent Artists in New York City.”The organizers promoted the exhibition as a revolutionary, because he had the policy of accepting absolutely everything without the judgment of a jury. Duchamp was co -founder of society and had helped develop this rule, but he still had doubts that his colleagues had open mentality personalities. “The presentation of the urinary would serve as proof, one that the society of independent artists did not approve."After knowing all this about" the source "I can find something that causes my thoughts and emotions. Therefore, now I can conclude with greater certainty than Duchamp’s work can be called as an art work.
However, in the world of contemporary art there are other pieces that excite me and that seem more shocking. I mean works that include facilities, performance, conceptual ideas and ideas of minimalism. First, I want to highlight the work "Electronic Superhightay" by artist Nam June Paik. And why is it easier for me to associate this work with contemporary art? Well, it represents a particular and original idea, an idea that demonstrates how the artist interprets a diverse nation through the new media technology. We are talking about a large installation, built with 336 televisions, 50 DVD players, 3750 feet of cable and 575 feet of multicolored neon tubes. From my point of view, "Electronic Superhightay" is 100% art, because "creates an overwhelming impact on visitors when they first see it".
