The wollyball activity happens in April every year, and participating teams are from both the United States and Mexico who engage in this fast-paced type of volleyball. The event is referred to as the “Fiesta Bi-Nacional, ” and its purpose is to strengthen constructive international correlations between the United States and Mexico. Additionally, this annual operation signifies the commemoration of the union between the U.S. and Mexico in spite of the real pressures resulting from migration among other problems. The “wollyball” recreation function dates back to about 36 years ago when it was first formed and since then many more similar competitions in other U.S.-Mexico frontier regions have resulted (Staufenberg n.p). For example, holiday-makers from Tijuana city in Mexico and ones from San Diego town in the United States occasionally organizes unplanned volleyball games on the sandy beaches at an area in which both states met the Pacific Ocean.
The U.S.-Mexico fence is a great reminder that in various ways, the frontier between the two nations is a war zone. The border patrol teams use the remainder of the Vietnam War including heat sensors, Ground autos, choppers and military arms to hunt immigrants. In spite of the continual presence of tight security between the two regions, engaging in the wollyball activity seems like a merger between the United States and Mexico. It also portrays that there can be a peaceful coexistence between the two nations and peace can exist in the war zone border. Additionally, the wollyball game is the only match, probably around the world where participants play while still within their nation’s territory, thus making the function a distinct engagement. The photograph portrays people from different states that are happy and seems to agree in unison on something that brings them together, not for illegal operations but instead for something more useful, unity and peace.
