What is Verisimilitude?
Verisimilitude is the situation by which something appears true. It is the form that a narrative exists and resembles the better part of the reality (“Verisimilitude: Definition”, 2018). The term applies to works such as the arts, films, and movies at some point of their making. They tend to borrow a lot from reality hence resembling some of the situations that exist in the real world that we live in. That, in turn, makes them appear real or true to the eye.
How A Beautiful Mind illustrates the above concept and its importance.
A Beautiful mind connects to the concept from the fact that the film represented the real life of mathematician by the name John Nash. The character that acts the role goes by the name Russel Crowe who contributes significantly towards illustrating the concept (Nasar, 1999). Nash had schizophrenia which and also portrayed excellent knowledge in mathematics which made him receive several prizes and worked at Princeton University. In the film, Crowe illustrates all the characteristics of Nash and also acts as if he’s retelling the mathematician’s biography. Crowe plays the role excellently and preserves the details as they are in real life thus bringing the experience of Nash and also demonstrating the concept of verisimilitude.
Verisimilitude is an essential factor towards bringing out the meaning of the film and making it relevant to the targeted audience. The concept enhances the storyline in any form of art be it a movie or a story making it logical and believable by preventing interruptions and gaps of information that might happen in between.
