Philosophy of Race and Racism
Various civil rights movements started with the sole intention of bringing an end to racism. Gordon argues that the primary motive of advocating for racial equality is to ensure that all persons enjoy equal freedom. At times, humans are tempted to hide from the responsibility of promoting humanity and fighting for freedom. There are those who will elevate their ego with the sole intention of feeling superior to others (Gordon 6). They will, therefore, neglect the real meaning of humanity and will not mind inflicting harm on others provided they are convinced of their self-righteous. In fact, such characters wish to remain invisible to the real world and thus ignoring their responsibility of upholding humanity. The other group encompasses all those who gang up with the sole intention of demeaning different racial groups which may be considered superior (Gordon 8). They will, therefore, do their level best to ensure that they are seen as the most dominant and superior ethnic group. However, little do they know that there are only adding salt to the wound since such tactics cannot address the issue of racism in the contemporary society.
Racism in the US had been a prevalent topic of debate until the past decade where many people were convinced that racial prejudice and discrimination do not longer exist. According to Ashley Doane, racism still exists and the so-called “racial-neutral policies” are meant to exploit and treat ethnic minority groups disproportionally (Doane 160).

Wait! What does Lewis Gordon means by racism as a form of bad faith? What does Ashley Doane mean by color-blind racism? Please explain both in your own words based on your understanding of the reading ma paper is just an example!

Doane refers to this idea as a shift in the racial ideology, but the whole concept is corrupted to the point that some are blind to unravel the truth. Politics which would have been termed as racially unfit and discriminative are now explained and interpreted using nonracial terms which are meant to assure the minority groups of neutrality. In a nutshell, Doane proposes a refined perception of understanding racism. There are numerous challenges which may have rose and yet the society has turned a blind eye following color-blind racism (Doane 167). Although various scholars have made attempts to point out this issue, Doane focuses on what is happening in the contemporary society and how the aspect of color-blind racism is manifested.
