DownloadAdmissions Essay: What Have You Done To Make Your School or Community Better?
I have this motto which I have been following over the last seven or so years that a leader leads best by serving others. I try to do all I can to have an active and productive life in and off school. Co-curricular and community-oriented activities excite me in ways I cannot explain. It is a good feeling of helping other people. I am a firm believer in servant leadership; that firsthand service is the best way to help out fellow humans. Hence, I have been involved in community service programs and volunteering.
I am dedicated to integrating the marginalized people into society. I had the opportunity of helping out children whose parents are incarcerated in the Sun Village, Beijing, China. It was a moving experience for me making those children smile and laugh. I was part of a volunteer service program where we helped the children in their chores and played with them. There was this one girl who I bonded with; she was aloof and anti-social at first, but as the months went by, she trusted me. She started socializing with the other children. It gives me a satisfaction that I was a catalyst for the transition.
Many people in the world need our help. My experiences at the Sun Village inspired my perspective of life. I learned that the world is not a perfect place. Every little thing we as humans can do to make it better goes a long way. There is this feeling of self-fulfilment one has when he/she helps somebody out.
Wait! What have you done to make your school or your community a better place? paper is just an example!
That feeling is at the core of what makes us humans. That one mission which lasted four months changed my life completely. I vowed that I would go back to the Sun Village to check on the progress of that little girl.
