Danielle Aria developed a way for the public to report criminal activities happening in real-time and then pass the information on to the authorities. She put her innovation in practice on a Monday morning with her algorithm expected to sift through data in files involving cold police cases and identified clues that would help solve the murder of one of the prominent businessmen in the town. The algorithm started evaluating the information the people offered to determine its authority. After the vetting process, Aria and her senior software engineer, the sole administrators of the website, contacted the office of the commander and relayed the data they had found. During the field test, the algorithm was able to upload the clues about the murder and several other past murder cases to the official website available to the public and prompted the detectives to carry out investigations within the neighbourhood. It was evident that Aria had discovered a way to harness the wisdom of the crowd in a manner that was increasingly gaining popularity.
Some of the data provided by the algorithm were somewhat inaccurate according to the statement one of the detectives on the case gave later in the day. Hence other officers became concerned that the algorithms had provided a means for criminals to upload irrelevant data to obstruct the murder investigations. Hours later, after the days brief on the murder case, Aria managed to develop another wiki where experts could modify the information the police received to ensure that it was from credible sources.

The experts monitored the Internet Protocol address (IP address) of all the computers that were confiscated and those that may have been involved in plotting the criminal activity. As a result, they were able to link an unusual activity on one device located within the crime scene that was being used to upload irrelevant data. The offices managed to get to the culprits and had them arrested. The police offices in doubt of Aria’s program abilities complimented the enhancement to the validity and integrity of the data police authorities received and agreed to use it to solve future cold cases. Also, they were offered jobs to be the sole gatekeepers of the website so that they can ensure the information uploaded was often accurate and timely. By implementing crowd-sourcing into her site, Aria had provided a route to bring together thousands of people in their quest for justice. Additionally, the clues the users provided ensured that criminals trying to flee from arrest would be promptly reported and, therefore, prosecuted for their crimes.
